Tasting Notes

In contrast to the expressiveness of the other grands crus, here the nose is restrained to the point of being almost mute though aggressive swirling liberates highly complex notes of spice, peach, lemon, stone and soft wood. The rich, full-bodied, tight and wonderfully concentrated broad-shouldered flavors possess a silky and seductive texture as well as superb depth on the hugely long and intense finish. Montrachet is naturally a big wine but this is massive by any measure yet it remains, like the Chevalier, impeccably well-balanced.

Allen Meadows, Burghound.com (43), February 2011

Layers of beautifully delineated, expressive fruit emerge from the 2009 Montrachet. The wine blossoms on the mid-palate and finish, with generous, radiant fruit that flows through to the long, sensual finish. This remains a decidedly understated, fresh style of Montrachet. Ideally it needs a few more years to truly come together in bottle, although it is already pretty special. Anticipated maturity: 2014+.
