A wine of striking purity and plenitude, Dugat's 2009 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru offers up aromas of sweet red berries, plums and cherries, mingled with subtle hints of spices and peonies. Full-bodied, rich and fleshy, it's seamless and enveloping, with an ample core of ripe but vibrant fruit, melting tannins, lively acids and a long, saline finish. This has developed beautifully and remains an adolescent today, but its supple, harmonious profile means it already offers irresistible drinking.
This offers another step up in aromatic refinement with its earthy, layered and exuberant red and blue pinot fruit aromas that are cut with the barest hint of the sauvage that can also be found on the mineral-driven, rich and quite generous medium-weight plus flavors that culminate in a lacy yet intense finish that displays excellent flavor authority. I also very much like the sneaky length as this persists, disappears and then reappears.
