I couldn-t resign myself to putting the fruit from this one parcel of very old vines into the generic,- says Olivier Humbrecht by way of explanation for a 2009 Gewurztraminer Herrenweg de Turckheim Vieilles Vignes of only 12.6% alcohol and correspondingly unabashed sweetness (though granted, the impressive 2007 version was sweet even at 15.8%). Mint and cinnamon candy, rose water, mocha, caramel, and litchi inhabit this creamy, caressing, quite delicate, and hauntingly persistent confection. Here is strictly a self-sufficient wine for meditation and self-indulgence, one apt to be worth following for at least the next 15 years and quite probably significantly longer.
