Tasting Notes

Beautiful, subtle aromas of berries, cappuccino and black olive are amazing. Full-bodied, with ultrarefined tannins and a long, long finish. Goes on for minutes. Leaves me speechless. This is soulful. A Tuscan cult wine you don't want to miss. Merlot. Best after 2012. 710 cases made.

James Suckling, Wine Spectator, October 2007

This three-year jump forward in time brings us to a whole new identity for this great Tuscan Merlot. The 2004 Messorio feels outright youthful and has not reached anywhere near the same tertiary intensity that you get with 2000 and 2001. Given the heat and the general hardship of the 2003 vintage, Le Macchiole found itself in front of great challenges in 2004 as well. High yields were an issue and enormous work was achieved to cut back on grape vigor and production. This vintage also marks a stylistic shift for Messorio. From this point on, the wine shows greater sugar levels and higher concentration. This is evident in the strong build and deep footprint on display here. This is a gorgeous edition of Messorio that shows a touch of Tuscan rusticity and true grit.
