Tasting Notes

The 2010 Estate Chardonnay has expressive ripe peach, shaved almond, apricot, green mango and pineapple notes with a faint suggestion of meal. Medium-bodied with crisp acid, it shows good concentration, a satiny texture and a long finish. Approachable now, it should drink to 2016+.

Straw-yellow. Inviting aromas of stone fruits, brown spices and charred vanillin oak. Rich, supple and dry, offering very good volume and fullness without undue weight. Not quite as sharply delineated as the Mate's Vineyard chardonnay but balanced, round and seamless, with a lovely restrained sweetness. The long finish offers subtle notes of smoke and nuts.

Racy fresh there is a lot happening on the nose herbal leafy gun smoke the freshness on the start of the palate quickly gives way to a rich mix of pear and ripe nectarine. The generosity is balanced by citrus and flint the back palate lighter the finish packed with a mix of rich ripe fruits. 2018-25

Rich, complexity, delicious smokey aromatics mixed with real concentration, power and palate depth. Wonderful power, precision, intensity. Wow. Superb wine.

Lively, bright, very fresh with focused lemony fruit and fine spicy notes. Lovely precision and focus.

Pale straw with a greenish tinge. Very tense and youthful. Lightly reductive. Great but very youthful vintage. Great sculpted precise fruit, not yet ready. Excellent value. No new oak but lots of second-year oak. VGV. Drink 2016-2020.

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, May 2015

Quite smoky and a light toast. Fine citrus and some clementine. Rich and dense and concentrated. Half normal yields. Not fat, because the freshness is there too. Mouthfilling and creamy. Lovely freshness even with all that depth and length. Stunning value. VGV (JH) 13.5%
Drink 2012-2015

Great toasty and nutty aromas, then a really exciting interplay of concentration and racy acidity, the long finish intensely mineral. Great now, but will hold for many years. Screw cap.

A similar profile to the rest of the flight so far though this seems a little more complete on the nose. Still tight, though. Rich and punchy in the mouth. This is very complete and spot on right now. Steely. Very good.
