Tasting Notes

The 2007 Barolo Riserva Vecchie Viti dei Capalot e delle Brunate (magnum) is another drop-dead gorgeous wine. The wine remains rather shy, revealing shades of its personality only with great reluctance. A dark, sensual Barolo, the Vecchie Viti dei Capalot e delle Brunate offers up gorgeous dark fruit, menthol, spices and minerals in a rich, baritone voice. There is a shroud of mysteriousness to the wine I find incredibly appealing. This turns positively explosive on the finish, with layers of mineral and balsamic infused fruit that flow through to the powerful yet seamless finish. This is a magnificent effort from Roberto Voerzio, but it is the most reticent of these 2007s and will require patience. Anticipated maturity: 2022-2032.
