Charmes Chambertin, Domaine Claude Dugat 2010

Tasting Notes

**Note: from a .33 ha parcel of 40+ year old vines in Charmes proper**
This is also reduced though not nearly so strongly. There is good verve to the extract rich medium-bodied flavors that coat the palate on the significantly more structured, deeper and longer finish. The supporting tannins are really quite fine and while there is plenty of volume and solid power, this is perhaps a bit more sophisticated than it usually is. As with the Lavaut, readers should note that my score assumes that the reduction here is not permanent.

Bright, deep red. Musky, wild aromas and flavors of black raspberry, coffee, gibier, smoky crushed rock and mocha; an essence of Gevrey. Silky-sweet and deep, with terrific spicy, peppery lift contributing to the wine's superb inner-mouth tension. Finishes with a firm spine for aging but the tannins arrive late, allowing the wine's fruit and perfume to dust the mouth and expand on the aftertaste.

**Note: a blend of one-third Mazoyères and two-thirds Charmes proper - the fruit comes from a mix of mostly 20+ year, and a small percentage of extremely old, vines; 50% stems**
A very floral nose also offers up notes of black cherry, spice and plenty of earth that continue over to the very rich, round and impressively concentrated large-scaled flavors that possess outstanding intensity and plenty of drive on the suave and seductively textured finish. While this certainly evidences good size, weight and power, it is essentially a wine of refinement and even finesse in 2010. It is firmly but not imposingly structured and 12 to 15 years should see it at its best.
