La Romanée, Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair 2011

Tasting Notes

In stark contrast to the prior wines that had not been racked, this is actually quite fresh with a restrained and cool but superbly elegant nose that features a wonderful array of spices along with violet, red currant, plum and rose petals along with the hallmark wet stone nuances. There is equally superb focus to the refined, delineated and powerful medium-bodied flavors that are shaped by exceptionally fine tannins that are perfectly well-integrated on the energetic and explosive finish. The sense of underlying tension and Zen-like poise are seriously impressive and the hugely long finale is quite simply breathtaking. A knockout and as good as several of the prior wines are, this is just at another level though note well that this will need at least 12 to 15 years to arrive at its peak.
