Tasting Notes

(from an incredible 2.7 ha parcel which makes Bouchard the largest owner, surpassing the
2.5 ha of Latour-Giraud). There is still some post-bottling sulfur present and not surprisingly the nose is markedly reduced at present so be sure to decant this if you're going to try a bottle on release. The fleshy but beautifully well-delineated middle weight flavors possess a fine sense of energy as well as a fine bead of minerality that runs the length of the wine and is particularly evident on the balanced, graceful and moderately dry finish. This stylish effort should reward 6 to 8 years of cellar time yet be approachable young too.

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2012 tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières from Bouchard Père & Fils has an attractive nose: honeysuckle and jasmine at first, orange blossom following soon after. This is very well defined and poised. The palate is fresh and crisp on the entry. There is appreciable mineralité here with a harmonious finish that has the nervous nature of a Meursault Perrières. Not quite as promising as previous bottles I have tasted, but still a worthy Meursault from Bouchard Père.

You would be forgiven for thinking there was more new oak on this wine though apparently it is only up to 10% – there's creamy oak spice aplenty, with that same oaky creamy character on the palate. Soft and softly spiced. Rich and quite powerful.

Very pale yellow. Precise but laid-back aromas of lemon, flowers and hazelnut. Smooth, ripe and classically dry, with apple and citrus flavors framed by harmonious acidity. This wine is almost too clean now, said Prost, who planned to roll the barrels for 24 hours to get more roundness and richness. He rolls the barrels once or twice in the first months for all of his wines instead of doing a traditional batonnage, but said that this Charmes in particular needed more elevage.
