Echézeaux, Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair 2011

Tasting Notes

There is a profusion of spice and earth hints to the intensely floral nose of red currant, apple and cherry. The rich, velvety and palate coating medium weight plus flavors possess firm supporting tannins and outstanding persistence, in fact this is just as long as the Reignots if not quite as complex. Drink: 2023+

The 2011 Echezeaux Grand Cru was very impressive a year ago and it remains one of the domaine’s finest wines of the vintage now. It has a very candied bouquet with aniseed-tinged black and red fruit – quite opulent and more like the Reignots with hints of coffee bean infusing the elegant finish. This is a vivacious grand cru with great structure and fine persistency toward the lightly peppered finish that fans out gloriously, lingering seductively in the mouth. This is one of the finest wines of the 2011 Burgundy vintage. Drink 2017-2035.

Bright red. Reasonably subtle nose though with some oak in evidence. Good weight and breadth in the mouth. Plus lots of 2011 freshness. Very fine tannins on the finish. Still a little raw but it should all come right in the end. 2019 - 2030
