Located in the centre of Campbeltown, this small distillery was founded in 1828 and today it produces three distinct types of single malts. Each of the three (Longrow, Hazelburn and Springbank) have their own character - Longrow is the traditionalist's peaty style, Hazelburn has no peat whatsoever and Springbank has just a little. These are whiskies for the connoisseur.
The nose is rather more delicate than anticipated with a gentle smokiness complementing the nutty, honeyed notes and themes of cereal, wild flowers and herbs. The palate is staggering. Citrus and tropical fruits push to the fore - think apricot, melon and mango. There is a gentle oaking that runs throughout offering hints of vanilla and spice to an already extraordinarily detailed palate of wild flowers, cereal and toffee with citrus peel and sage. It's hard not to go on as the spectrum of flavours is so broad. The balance is perfect and it finishes very long.
