Tasting Notes

This is restrained to the point of being almost timid yet it is also exceptionally pretty with a really lovely nose of plum, earth and a hint of the sauvage that carries over to the exceptionally rich, textured and velvety flavors that culminate in a very serious and quite firmly structured finish. As my description of the nose suggests, this is still very primary and while a bit awkward today it should harmonize in time as there is an abundance of extract and good phenolic maturity to the structural elements. Drink: 2025+

A dark red, with black cherry and blackberry flavors held in the grip of dense, grainy tannins. Compact and closed, showing good acidity on the finish and a lingering aftertaste. Best from 2017 through 2035. 50 cases made.

Champy only makes two barrels of this wine. It's finely concentrated, and it has solid tannins and rich, powerful black-plum and cherry flavors. Keep it for at least 8–9 years.
