Tasting Notes

Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux 2010 tasting. The Chateau Camensac 2010 has a tightly wound bouquet with blackberry, wild hedgerow, cedar and cigar box scents that demand coaxing. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, chalky tannins. There are plenty of potent tobacco notes here with a touch of spice on the finish. It is a little introverted at the moment, this should develop nicely with several years in the cellar. Tasted January 2014.

A strong effort from this large estate, Camensac’s 2010 offers up classic Bordeaux notes of tobacco leaf, licorice, red and black currants, and some spicy oak. It has light to medium tannin, medium body, and good purity and cleanliness. Anticipated maturity: now-2025.

The Camensac has a lifted ripe bouquet of black cherries, autumn leaves and graphite that is nicely defined but takes time to coalesce. The palate is medium-bodied with firm grip on the entry: spicy black fruit with hints of fruitcake and spice towards the vibrant, quite joyful finish. This is well worth seeking out for the price. Tasted November 2012.
