Tasting Notes

The 2014 Chablis Côte de Léchet comes from a south-facing vineyard and was picked in early September to avoid over-ripeness. That comes through on the nose with wet limestone and subtle tertiary aromas. The palate is bright on the entry with Cornice pear and grapefruit notes, impressive weight in the mouth with a taut and linear, satisfying finish. Very fine. Drink 2016-2025.

The hallmark citrus elements of a fine Côte de Léchet are present in force along with notes of apple and pear though there is limited classic Chablis character. There is good richness to the generously proportioned, round and delicious flavors that offer fine intensity on the agreeably dry, clean and saline-inflected finale. This should be approachable young if desired.

Producer note: Guffens noted that with the exception of the Mont de Milieu, all of the following were exclusively raised in stainless steel.

Picked earlier than most of their vineyards. Steep vineyard facing south. No oak. Very direct and lively and pure. Green and juicy. Racy and fruity. Really fine and reverberant.
