Tasting Notes

The 2014 Feytit Clinet has a crisp bouquet with violet-tinged black fruit, understated and very precise (a leitmotif of Jeremy Chasseuil's wine). The palate is clean and precise, very well defined with a mineral-infused finish that lingers long in the mouth. There is nothing ostentatious about this wine, rather it is all about the composure, refinement and precision. It can be summed up in two words: Bon vin! Drink Date 2019 - 2035

Quite a discrete, old-fashioned wine for Pomerol with a very nice balance and some real depth. For traditionalists this a good choice at the lower end of the price range for this appellation. Beauty.

82% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc. Harvested 22 September to 4 October. Some of the Cabernet Franc vines were planted in 2006 and are in this for the first time. (Blason is 100% Merlot.) pH 3.8, TA 3.3 g/l (= 5.05 g/l expressed as tartaric).
Black lustrous crimson. Fresh, transparent nose. Round and seductive. Difficult to even see the tannins. Flattering and very vibrant. Long. 14.2%

Made from 94% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc, the 2014 Château Feytit-Clinet isn’t going to make anyone forget the 2015, but it’s certainly a brilliant wine that excels in the vintage. Offering a perfumed, complex, traditional style in its ripe red currants, black cherries, smoked herbs, sous bois, and floral nuances, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a light, graceful, incredibly seamless texture, fine tannin, and a great finish. This beauty is all about finesse and elegance, is perfectly balanced, and while already beautiful, should keep for 15+ years. 2018 - 2033

Back on form after a dip in quality in 2013, this succulent red from the western side of the Pomerol plateau is ripe and concentrated for a 2014, with sweet plum and bluberry fruit, some chocoaltey oak, enticing aromatics and firmish, ageworthy tannins.

The Château Feytit-Clinet 2014 is another strong effort from Jeremy Chasseuil who has reinvigorated this Pomerol cru in recent years, almost under the radar (apart from perhaps the Pomerol cognoscenti and those that bought my tome.) This year is a blend of 94% Merlot and 6% Cabernet France picked between 29 September and 10 October, matured in 80% new French oak. It is very refined on the nose, very subtle, a sample that you have to spend time with. It unfurls with mulberry and seaweed scents. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin that lend this Pomerol a sense of mineralité, but there is a lovely crescendo here towards a finish that fans out beautifully. This is a sophisticated, understated and quite intellectual showing. Drink: 2019 - 2035
