Blueberries and wet earth with dried flowers. Full body, a solid core fruit and a long and juicy finish. Excellent. Better in 2020.
Tasted blind. Rich and more concentrated than most Margaux. A bit sharp on the end. Very drying sandpaper tannins.
Drink 2024-2038
A core of lightly steeped plum, blackberry and anise notes is framed by a singed juniper hint. Delivers fleshy drive through the finish while maintaining a supple, elegant feel overall. Best from 2018 through 2024. 25,835 cases made.
The 2014 Lascombes was perplexing when I tasted it multiple times from barrel. Now in bottle, it has a generous, warm bouquet with chestnut-tinged black fruit, hints of cedar filtering through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, smooth in texture with ample blackberry and blueberry fruit, although my main criticism is lack of detail and delineation on the finish. Ergo, you don't feel enthused about returning for another sip. Drink date 2019 - 2029
The Château Lascombes 2014 was showing just a bit of reduction on the nose when I tasted it, though normal for this estate, there is clearly abundant opulent fruit on the nose–cassis and blueberry to the fore. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly dry tannin and brambly black fruit, but an unexpected slight attenuation toward the finish. This is a perplexing showing. Tasted three times with consistent observations, this was difficult to pin down, so I will retaste this with more barrel age.
Dense and beautiful with layers of fruit and tannins. Very impressive for the vintage.
Dark purplish crimson. Sweetness and polish on the nose. Very charming with good ripeness and just very slightly austere tannins. Should provide rewarding drinking. Needs time. Less exaggerated than it used to be. Drink 2024-2036
