With a savory, struck match undercurrent, the 2014 Coddington Chardonnay has a core of lemons, fresh grapefruit and yuzu with a touch of pineapple. Medium bodied and still quite tightly wound at this youthful stage, it gives and refreshing acid backbone throughout the long finish. It should age beautifully over the next 6-8 years+.
The nose is lean and mineral the start of the palate has the freshness of cut apple but under this there is a sweet mix of ripe melon and greengage silky richness. Fresh fruits show at the back steely and bright on the finish. 2018-26
Plenty of exotic lemon cream biscuits, white peach and crystalised figs. Palate surprises the senses with massive, unctuous weight, powerfully fleshy body, seamlessly integrated acids and a slightly sappy, spicy, resinous citrus and apple purée finish. Very harmonious and without doubt an impressive glassful.
Smoky nose. And then quite rich and broad. I think the 2015 has a bit more tension. Big and ripe and I’m sure it will develop well. Very long. Intense rather than complex.
Drink 2017-2032
bright and citrusy style with gently toasty oak in a modern guise. this has a sense of pristine fruit ripeness, opening to white-peach aromas and a flinty edge. the palate's smoothly crafted, and the acidity keeps everything attractive in terms of beautiful stone-fruit flavors that sit in a sorbet-like texture. so much great freshness and resolve. drink now.
Much fresher than the Estate chardonnay of this vintage, this has lots of ripe pear character and generous body, but remains restrained. The further you ride the graceful, long finish, the more complete the overall impression becomes. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
