Tasting Notes

**Note: also from a full 1 ha parcel of 50+ year old vines that saw 40% new wood**
A subtle application of wood easily allows the mildly exotic and fresh aromas of ripe white and yellow orchard fruit, tangerine peel and lychee nut to be appreciated. As is usually the case the medium weight plus flavors are slightly bigger and richer than those of the Champ Canet yet the palate impression remains one of refinement and class on the lingering finish that displays focused power. This beautifully balanced effort will also require at least moderate patience.

Allen Meadows, Burghound.com (63), June 2016

Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting, Sauzet's 2014 Puligny Montrachet 1Er Cru les Combettes has a crisp, lively, cold stone/limestone and grilled walnut-scented bouquet that lends it a Meursault-like personality. There is certainly impressive vigor in situ. The palate is very saline on the entry with fine acidity and very good depth—a quintessential Puligny-Montrachet that is lightly spiced and comes armed with an unsubtle but powerful finish that lingers. The 2014 Puligny-Montrachet 1Er Cru Les Combettes is much more reserved, aloof, stoic on the nose that its peers despite encouragement. The palate is fresh on the entry with green apple, Conference pear and a touch of white pepper, gently fanning out with that spicy element becoming more and more pronounced. This is a serious Puligny and it should be afforded 2-3 years in the cellar.
