Tasting Notes

This is beautifully vibrant this year, with a nose of lemon oil, white flowers and crème pâtissière. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, very focussed and linear. There is great cut and minerality. This is a 2015 which could pass for a 2014 blind.

The 2015 Saint-Veran Vignes de St Claude, which comes from the Prissé commune and is fermented in 20% new oak for four months, offers attractive dried pineapple and almond scents on the nose, the wood judiciously used, imparting just a slight creaminess to the aromatics. The palate is well balanced with a fine line of acidity, quite compact at the moment with a tang of white pepper towards the finish. This is a Saint-Veran that I might afford 6-8 months in bottle as I suspect it will improve.

Pure fruit the nose is fresh the palate precise and bright with citrus and crisp apple. Richer in the
middle pear and ripe greengage the sweetness balanced by freshness at the back the finish has
good length, racy, flinty and mineral. 2017-22

Located in the commune of Prissé, close to the vineyards of Pouilly-Fuissé from Vergisson. The vines are roughly 50 years old, with clay-limestone soils covered in stones. The wine is fermented in barrels, of which 20% are new. The fermentation ended in mid-February with a further ageing of 4 months in the barrel. This was a late-ripening plot that retained its acidity and was therefore picked near the end of the harvest. The wine exhibits a real lemon zest nose with flinty mineral notes complemented by a little toast and vanilla. The palate is pure and clean with a lemon curd note running through to the finish. There is zippy, refreshing acidity and a touch of sweet vanilla, adding a layer of complexity to this well balanced wine.
