Hailing from old vines on clay-rich soils, this is the most concentrated and powerful of the Verget Pouilly-Fuissé bottlings this year, with a glossy-textured palate and obvious dry extract. It reveals lovely balance and never strays into corpulence. The bouquet evokes musky peach and honeycomb. Drinking Window 2016 - 2026.

Thanks to a North and a South exposure, this cuvée in 2015 is very well-balanced. To maintain freshness in the very ripe 2015 vintage, a higher proportion of grapes with northern exposure was used compared to other years. The vines here are more than 70 years old on average. Bunches were small and the yield low. It was produced with free run juices vinified in barrels with 25% of new oak. Fermentations finished in late December, followed by elevage in barrel for a further 7 months. Light gold colour, a fresh nose with pears and lemons. This is impressively mineral for a Pouilly Fuissé with good zip and great length. However there is an impressive richness of fruit that defies the acidity. Powerful in the middle yet fresh and lively on the finish. A very finely balanced wine.

The 2015 Pouilly-Fuissé Les Combes Vieilles Vignes comes from vines with north and south exposure and sees 25% new oak for seven months. It has an attractive bouquet with hints of grilled walnut stoking up the citrus fruit, even a light sea spray influence that lends personality. The palate is very well balanced with a peachy entry, crisp acidity and plenty of spice towards the finish. I would like more persistence on the aftertaste, but otherwise this is a very fine Pouilly-Fuissé.
