Domaine Sauzet’s 2014 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet saw no new wood, as there are only three piéces in the cellars of this wine and the Boudots decided to use one wine barrels for all three casks this year. The result is a stunningly transparent and beautiful Bienvenues, soaring from the glass in a gorgeous blend of apple, pear, tangerine zest, a very complex base of chalky soil tones, citrus blossoms and still a hint of vanilla in the upper register from the one year-old barrels. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, focused and quite youthful in profile, with a great core of fruit, superb soil signature, bright acids and outstanding length and grip on the impeccably balanced finish. A great wine in the making, (Drink between 2021-2050)
An elegant, pure and ultra-fresh nose offers up notes of honeysuckle, white peach, tea and citrus zest. There is an even more refined mouth feel to the utterly delicious and highly seductive medium weight flavors that somewhat surprisingly are even more precise, all wrapped in a citrusy, impressively persistent and youthfully austere finale. This is quite firmly structured and should amply reward extended cellaring.
