Soft wood is present on the attractively fresh nose of spice, red currant and tea aromas. There is good detail to the rich, round and refined medium weight flavors that culminate in a firm and mildly austere finish where the supporting tannins exhibit a noticeable touch of asperity. Despite the slight edge this seems to work anyway even though I doubt that the balance will ever be ideal.
(completely destemmed; aged in 25% new oak): Deep, healthy saturated red; clearer than the last few samples. Pure but subdued aromas of red cherry, spices and flowers. A step up in texture and depth over the Beaune and Volnay wines, showing black cherry and dark plum fruit accented by a positive peppery quality. There's more stuffing here to buffer the wine's serious tannins. Finishes juicy and long, with lovely lingering perfume.
