Rivesaltes, Domaine La Sobilane 1963

Tasting Notes

The 1963 Rivesaltes from Domaine La Sobilane, which produced vin doux naturel until the end of the 1980s, is mainly black Grenache. It has a refulgent tawny/golden color. It has a very detailed bouquet with scents of marmalade, peach skin and Mirabelle that opens beautifully in the glass. The palate is very well defined with a fine bead of acidity, notes of ginger, marmalade and then later, a touch of Earl Grey. The palate is well balanced with fine tannin, quite feminine and elegant, with a gentle "pulsing" of spice on the tongue with subtle lemongrass notes on the finish. Slightly chilled, this will be divine. Drink 2017-2032.

Oxidised and sticky sweets sticking to a seat. This is not the most refreshing; the nose reminds me a bit of PX. Bit chewy on the end.
