Bernkasteler Doctor Spatlese, Weingut Dr. H Thanisch 2015

Almost non-saying at first, this Doctor Spätlese only slowly reveals some complex scents of anise, dried spices, laurel, mint and smoke all wrapped in some residual notes of spontaneous fermentation. But it is only on the palate that the full magnificence of this wine becomes clear. Juicy and creamy yellow peach on the dense mid-palate is stunningly wrapped into a linear and spicy structure. The finish is very long, smoky and herbal. As usual with Thanisch and Doctor wines, this is only an infant and a solid decade away from maturity. But make no mistake: The underlying stuff is quite breathtakingly graceful, complex and multilayered! 2025-2045
