CDP Collection Charles Giraud, Domaine Saint Préfert 2006

Tasting Notes

Much more backward, austere, and leaner, with higher tannin and an incredible earthiness (almost an essence of truffle) is the kirsch-laden, tannic 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Charles Giraud. This is more of a long-term prospect compared to the other wines in the portfolio, and seemed closed but with outstanding potential the day I tasted it. Buyers of this wine should have some degree of patience and hold it for 2-3 years, then drink it over the following 15+. Drink 2010 - 2025

A combination of 60% tank-aged Grenache and 40% demi-muid-aged Mourvedre, the 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Collection Charles Giraud possesses a denser, deeper ruby/purple color as well as classic notes of ground pepper, roasted Provencal herbs, lavender, black cherries, and currants. This deep, full-bodied, voluptuously-textured beauty is a more complete and harmonious wine than the more structured 2005.
