Clos Saint Martin 2012

Tasting Notes

This is a beautiful wine from this micro-estate (three acres) near the cemetery in St.-Emilion. Dense ruby/purple in color, it has pure, rich, black raspberry and black cherry fruit, a hint of minerality and stunning purity, texture and length. This is nearly impossible to find in the marketplace, but what a wonderful treasure for those lucky enough to find any. It needs a good 5-7 years of bottle age and should continue to drink well for up to 20 years afterwards. This is serious stuff.

Plenty of outstanding fruit here with chocolate and berry character. Full body, with fine tannins and a savory finish. This is going to develop nicely. May be better than 2011.

Blending 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine reached 14% alcohol, with a pH of 3.76. Coffee bean, licorice and jammy cherries open to a silky, sensuous, lush, black cherry filled, spicy wine. The final vintage made by Sophie Fourcade.
