New owner Silvio Denz reduced the quantities produced even more than the original owner, and the result is an outstanding as well as reasonably-priced 2004 Faugeres. A blend of 85% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, it boasts a deep ruby/purple color along with a sweet perfume of graphite, black cherry liqueur, licorice, and smoke. Medium to full body, dense fruit, sweet tannin, and mouthfilling texture and length suggest this beauty will drink well for 12-15 years. It is a sleeper of the vintage.
Solid for the vintage, with loads of ripe fruit and tobacco, and toasted oak character. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long finish. Serious stuff
Very odd, charred note on the nose, then syrupy texture - very atypical for the vintage. Where did all the tannins go? A sort of cough syrup rather than a wine. Very odd. Drink 2008-12
The dense ruby/purple-tinged 2004 exhibits good structure, decent acidity, and scents of charcoal, black olives, cassis, and cherries. Medium-bodied, moderately tannic, slightly austere, but well-endowed, it should drink well for 10-15 years.
