Tasting Notes

The generic 2012 Pauillac de Latour (54.5% Merlot and the balance mostly the two Cabernet grapes) has consistently been one of the best-buy wines from the Latour stable for a number of years, and the 2012 comes across well. Deep ruby/purple with notes of minerality woven with blackcurrant fruit, it is medium-bodied, pure, elegant and best drunk over the next 10-12 years.

The 2012 Le Pauillac de Château Latour has a pleasant strictness on the well-defined bouquet with black fruit laced with fine mineralité for a third wine. The palate is medium-bodied with a juicy core of fruit, an almost pastille-like purity, smooth in the mouth with a caressing, quite rounded finish. It might have just put on a little weight since I last tasted it. Drink this now and over the next 7-10 years. Tasted March 2017.

Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, May 2017

The 2012 Pauillac de Latour offers a glimpse into this legendary Château’s style. It has a deep ruby colour and a rich, plummy cassis-dominated nose. The palate is generous yet very well balanced, with a foundation of ripe mulberry fruit and blackberries all framed by a spicy, smoky edge. The tannins are soft and ripe yet hold the wine together nicely. Good intensity and ripeness on the finish which is dominated by black fruit and a touch of vanilla oak. This can be enjoyed now but will age nicely for well over a decade.
