The Mascot 2011

Tasting Notes

Deep ruby in colour, there is an explosive nose of smoke, mocha, blackcurrant and black cherry to this wine, underpinned with bitter cocoa and a light earthiness. The palate is spicy, with an almost black pepper element lifting sweet and succulent blackberry and blackcurrant fruits at the dense core of the wine. The tannins are silky smooth and refined, framing the sweet middle palate and adding a savoury, earthy edge which brings everything into balance. Though there is plenty of fruit weight, the acidity is fresh and the smoky, coffee aromas provide restraint and leave a harmonious, lifted and long finish.
