Tasting Notes

An overtly toasty character fights somewhat with the liqueur-like aromas of red and dark currant liqueur that flash notes of freshly turned earth, spice, smoked meat and plenty of forest floor nuances. This is markedly bigger and more powerful than the Charmes with more mid-palate concentration as well as the copious amounts of dry extract imparts a sappy texture as well as buffers the very firm tannic spine on the explosively long and beautifully well-balanced finale. This is an imposingly serious wine and expressly made to age so keep that in mind should you choose to buy it as this won't be a good candidate to drink young.

The 2015 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru has a more complex, you could say more enigmatic bouquet than the Charmes-Chambertin, darker fruit with touches of seaweed and iodine, with aeration more floral scents such as crushed violet. It feels mercurial in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a touch of dried fig and Asian spice infusing the red berry fruit. What I appreciate is the structure and especially the precision towards the finish. This is classy.
