Tasting Notes

The 2003 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is a baroque, gourmand white Burgundy, blossoming in the glass with aromas of peach, white chocolate, blanched almonds and toasted brioche. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, broad and textural, with comparatively low acidity but a certain succulence and energy that—remarkably—Coche’s 2003s didn’t show a few years ago. This Corton-Charlemagne’s atypical richness and textural extravagance makes it especially interesting to pair with richer dishes. Drink 2018-2023.

The 2003 Corton-Charlemagne (white) boasts a nose of creamed nuts and spices. This light to medium-bodied offering is rich, satin-textured, and fresh. Cookie dough, buttered toast, anise, nutmeg, assorted spices, minerals, and traces of candied limes can be discerned in its complex character. A lemony note, providing freshness and lift, makes an appearance in its long, suave finish. Projected maturity: 2006-2015.
