There’s an exception to every rule, and somehow it seems that von Buhl have held back a little on the barrique front with the Hofstück. An intriguing flinty aroma complements an attractive fragrance of ripe yellow fruit. Ample body and generous texture are well balanced by the stony and smoky components of a pronounced minerality.
Rich, fresh and suave, this is a rather serious dry riesling that's begging you to invest in the best fish you can obtain. A very elegant wine with a good decade of ageing potential.
In contrast to the Freundstuck, this shows a tighter, more mineral and citrus driven nose with a wonderful struck flint character. The palate is cool and bright, with hints of lemon and lime. Through the mid-palate however, the texture builds to add a creamy richness. Notes of orange oil, bergamot and nutmeg all come through. Despite this added weight, the wine remains compact and cool, with an incredibly long, precise and bright finish. A wine of great harmony, with real potential.
