Tasting Notes

There are fully 8,000 bottles of the 2016 Mâcon-Pierreclos Le Chavigne, a superb wine that unfurls in the glass with a classy bouquet of Meyer lemons, confit citrus and smoky reduction. It's full-bodied, ample and silky, with a deep, layered mid-palate, tangy balancing acids and a mouthwatering finish. It's reminiscent of the lovely 2011 rendition.

A mid-lemon colour in the glass with flecks of gold. A creamy nose of lemon curd and mandarin, with just a hint of fresh almond. Peachy and earthy in equal measue on the palate, with rich glycerol creaminess adding a luscious, honeyed quality to the fruit. This is perfect for drinking now, with fruit, honey and nuts all complementing eachother on the rounded, soft palate. Juicy and ripe through to the finish.

Farr Vintners, Farr Tasting, September 2020

There are 8,000 bottles of the “Le Chavigne” this year, and it is an excellent wine, bursting from the glass with notes of peach, pear, toasted hazelnut and oatmeal. On the palate, the wine is glossy, full-bodied and transparent, its flavors delineated with crystalline purity, its finish long and penetrating.

A pale yellow colour in the glass, the nose here is full of lemon curd and baked apple, with lightly smoky undertones. The palate follows, with juicy pears, apples and a lightly creamy texture offering a generous, approachable style. The light smoky, flinty notes add a touch of complexity, and there is a savoury hazelnut edge. This is round, plump, and already at peak, ideal for early consumption over the next 2 years.
