This is just as stylish as the Caillerets and even a bit more complex with its pure and equally elegant blend of red currant, dark raspberry, violet and equally spicy nose. The rich and powerful yet refined flavors possess first-rate mid-palate concentration along with an almost piercing minerality that really comes up on the youthfully austere, backward and strikingly persistent finale. About the only reproach that I noticed was a subtle hint of warmth but otherwise, this is absolutely lovely.
The 2015 Volnay 1er Cru Taillepieds is very promising, offering up a complex bouquet of blood orange, plums, rich red fruits and raw cocoa. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, with more amplitude and dimension than the Caillerets, its tannins still hiding behind its succulent core of fruit, its finish long and tangy.
