Tasting Notes

The Grand Village is wine from their family estate and their 2009, a blend of 75% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc, is a sleeper of the vintage. The good news is that there are 5,000 cases of this wine, which shows loads of raspberries and cherries, silky tannins, wonderful elegance and a medium-bodied mouthfeel. The family has been farming this same terroir for over 500 years!

Tasted with la famille Guinaudeau at the property, the 2009 is a blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc, the Grand Village 2009 has a crisp nose of blackberry, wild hedgerow, a touch of cold espresso and chlorophyll. Light but harmonious and true. The palate has a chalky entry with a fine thread of acidity, peppery at the front of the mouth with a grippy, tannic finish. Fine. Tasted November 2011.
