Mixed Case Georges Roumier, Domaine Georges & Christophe Roumier 1986

Tasting Notes

Chambolle Amoureuses- *90 points*
Gorgeous nose of dried roses and spice with rich, still tannic and fresh flavors that display plenty of flavor authority. To be sure, this is quite tannic and it will never lose this quality but it is very pretty all the same and would be best served with food.

Bonnes Mares- *91 points*
The bottle in this tasting possessed the same spicy and sous bois infused nose that is pure and completely mature and introduces delicious and sweet flavors that were displaying some tannic dryness on the moderately long finish. 88/now (Note though that I have tasted the '76 Bonnes Mares twice recently and both bottles were superior to this one. The review is: An incredibly impressive '86 with fully mature, somewhat spicy aromas cut with abundant sous bois notes followed by edgy but full, sweet, complex and still relatively powerful flavors of good breed and only a hint of finishing astringency. As burgs from this vintage go, the '86 Roumier is a first rate example that is drinking as well as it ever will now. Tasted twice with consistent notes.

Musigny- *89 points*
The nose here was moderately funky for almost 30 minutes though with extended airing, it eventually cleaned up to reveal intense notes of spice, earth, game and fully mature dark berry fruit notes that continue onto the powerful and still firmly structured flavors that display real depth and length but not quite the balance and overall harmony of the Bonnes Mares. It's a question mark whether the fruit will outlast the remaining tannins but with the appropriate food, this is still quite satisfying. In short, a very solid if not truly distinguished effort for the vintage.
