Rivesaltes, Domaine La Sobilane 1949

Tasting Notes

The 1949 Rivesaltes has a deeper colour than vintages from the 1950s and 1960s: a burnished amber core with flecks of greenness on the rim. It has a sublime bouquet with walnut, marmalade, espresso, almost peat-like scents that render the aromatics with real complexity. The palate is medium-bodied with tangy marmalade, orange rind, marjoram, and white pepper. An undercurrent of clove develops with time. I love the harmony and precision of this Rivesaltes – so refined and precise on the finish. Superb. Tasted with Philippe Gayral. 2018 - 2035

Burnt coffee, dark chocolate, fig and tar. Very elemental in style – tastes like smelting metal with the smoke and fire of heavy industry. Long, burnt sugar notes on the finish.
