This cask sample of the 2017er Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese Auction proves still hugely restrained and primary, as the nose is dominated by smoke, tar and residual scents from its spontaneous fermentation. The wine only gradually reveals its underlying nose of pear, lemon, starfruit, whipped cream and herbs. It is unusually intense and compact yet remains beautifully focused on the palate and leaves a long and playful feel in the creamy and concentrated, powerful yet racy finish.
