Tasting Notes

Enormous ripeness and concentration, but the exotic-fruit notes are very delicate. Great harmony, in spite of the creaminess and the hint of oak. Very long, seamless finish. Drink or hold.

Predominantly from the Loibenberg and Liebeberg but also from the most western part of the (west-facing) Kollmütz in Wösendorf and vinified in large oak casks, the 2017 Grüner Veltliner Smaragd "M" tries to reflect the maximum of the grape variety rather than the characteristics of the single vineyards. Macerated for 24 hours, this is a deep, rich and smoky-scented, slightly sweet Veltliner with fig aromas on the nose. Full-bodied, rich and powerful on the palate, this is a dense and structured but massive Veltliner. Tasted in Oberloiben/Wachau, September 2018.
