The 2018 Les Champs Libres is pure Sauvignon Blanc as usual, picked on September 3, 5 and 6 and bottled in mid-June. It has a refined bouquet of honeysuckle, jasmine and hints of freshly squeezed lime. The palate is well defined with a fine saline tang and an underlying orange peel note on the finish. This does not quite deliver the persistence of previous vintages, but it will open in a couple of years.
Aromas of dried apples, lemon zest, green papaya, herbs and toasted almonds. It’s full-bodied with tangy acidity. Exciting citrus zest, stones and wild herbs on the long finish. This needs time to come around with such acid and phenolic tension. Try after 2023.
