Gevrey Chambertin Coeur du Roy, Domaine Dugat-Py 2018

Tasting Notes

An equally fresh nose offers up notes ripe cassis, black raspberry, earth and plenty of sauvage nuances. The exceptionally rich and caressing medium-bodied flavors terminate in a dusty, youthfully austere and palate coating finish that makes it clear that this is built-to-age.

The vines, located in Les Epointures (1 ha), Combe du dessus (1ha), and Les Marchais (0.75ha behind the domaine) range from 50 to 109 years old. The wine is exceptionally deep purple black in colour. The bouquet is exceptionally heady too, certainly very ripe aromatically. The lush weight of fruit covers the acidity well, with just a touch of raspberry and redcurrant saving the black fruit from lacking balance. A little bit dry on the tannins at the back. We will need to wait to the end of the elevage to see if this is an extraordinary wine or just a little bit too much. Tasted: November 2019
