Gevrey Chambertin Cazetiers, Domaine Armand Rousseau 1988

Tasting Notes

I have had distinctly different experiences with this wine with some bottles showing well if not better, rating in the 89 to 90 point range and others displays notes of brett and volatile acidity. The better bottles have shown fine aromatic complexity on the fully mature nose that possesses plenty of spice, earth and sous-bois scents. The stony middle weight flavors possess the natural refinement that CSJ is known for, all wrapped in a reasonably long and complex finale. For my taste the '88 CSJ has peaked and there is nothing to be gained by cellaring it further. Multiple but mixed notes.
