This wine is made from a section of the Roc de Cambes vineyard that is only entitled to the straight Bordeaux appellation. In the past only 20% new oak was used but Francois Mitjavile now thinks that the quality of the fruit deserves 100% new Radoux blend barrels. 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernets. Around 16000 bottles are produced from 6 hectares of vines.

Tasting Notes

Good yields of 50hl/ha in 2019. The blend is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, with the ageing as always in 100% new French oak. Deep ruby in colour with an opulent and ripe nose of morello cherries and damson. The palate is forward and soft, with seamless tannins allowing the succulent black and red fruits at the core to shine through. The oak is sweet and spicy but in balance. The long, fleshy finish further indicates that this will drink well from an early stage.

Farr Vintners, Farr Tasting, May 2020

70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc. Barrel sample.
Fruit pushed to the edge of overripeness but it works. Bright, dark-fruit notes with toasted overlay. Palate sweet, silky and gourmand, bringing a freshness to the finish. Clearly surpasses its appellation status. (JL)
