Tasting Notes

The 2019 Gazin is a fleshy, dramatic wine that wafts from the glass with aromas of ripe berry fruit mingled with subtle hints of truffle and violets, its new oak already entirely integrated. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and seamless, it's broad and textural, with lively acids, powdery tannins and fine length on the finish. Drink Date 2025 - 2050

William Kelley, RobertParker.com (April 2022), April 2022

The 2019 has a beguiling bouquet with red berry fruit, truffle and light Provençal herb scents that are beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins. This is exquisite in terms of balance, silky smooth, building gradually with a harmonious and quite effortless finish. Divine - this is a stellar showing. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. Drink 2025-2055.

Bright ruby colour. The nose is tight and hard to judge at this stage, but underneath there seems good intensity of both red and black fruit. The palate is rich in creamy cherry fruit, propped up by firm tannins. The fruit pushes through, bringing the rounder texture that you might expect from a Pomerol. Still, this is quite awkward at this stage and warrants some patience before opening. Pithy and long.

A perfumed nose of mulberries, plums, chocolate orange and cloves. Hints of toffee, too. Medium-to full-bodied with firm, ripe tannins. Caressing, velvety and rich core of dark fruit. So supple and polished. 88.5% merlot, 7% cabernet sauvignon and 4.5% cabernet franc. Drink after 2024.

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, February 2022

The 2019 Gazin is composed of 88.5% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 4.5% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple in color, it sashays out with a gorgeous perfume of raspberry pie, rose oil, and vanilla pod, giving way to a core of crushed blackberries, cast-iron pan, and truffles. The full-bodied palate has a sturdy frame of grainy tannins and plenty of freshness supporting the dense, muscular fruit, finishing earthy.

Tasted blind. Mid crimson. Lifted and rich on the nose. A tad cool and raw on the palate though. It should come right but will need time. 14.5%

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, February 2023

Vibrant ruby in colour with bright and fresh aromatics of red plums and cherries on the nose. Fine and lifted on the palate, this is fresh, crunchy and sappy. Juicy red fruits and accents of sweet spices linger through to a fine and chalky finish.

The 2019 Gazin has a convincing, perfumed nose of beautifully defined red fruit, light estuarine aromas, touches of crushed stone and even a hint of fig. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit. There is very good depth and substance here, and veins of dark chocolate and allspice toward the finish. The only minor quibble is that it needs a little more finesse. But it is a superb Gazin and a great Pomerol. Drink 2025-2055.

Neal Martin, vinous.com, February 2022

The 2019 Gazin is tightly wound at first and needs coaxing from the glass. Broody dark berry fruit, truffle and smoke eventually emerge, flanked by a discrete marine influence. The palate is very promising with saturated tannins that belie the structure of this Pomerol. The freshness is very impressive, lighting up the senses. The finish is imbued with wonderful tension and traces of iron on the aftertaste. Quintessentially Gazin, this is a superb wine.

Neal Martin, vinous.com, June 2020

A tight, focused red with blackberry and blueberry character, as well as chocolate. It’s full and compact with soft, silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Harmonious.

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, June 2020

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Gazin has fragrant notions of rose oil and lilacs over a core of prunes and Christmas cake plus hints of cumin seed. Full-bodied, it has firm grainy tannins and bold freshness supporting the generous fruit, finishing on a lingering, exotic spice note.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 Gazin sashays out of the glass with pretty black cherries, kirsch and raspberry pie scents followed by hints of wilted roses, aniseed and damp soil. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has lovely restraint with loads of earth and mineral nuances taking center stage, framed by rounded tannins and soft acidity, finishing long and savory. 2024 - 2040
