Chateau Le Prieuré was one of several estates bought by Francois Pinault, owner of Chateau Latour, in 2014. After a few years of shared ownership, it moved fully under his control and the management of Frederic Engerer in 2018 - with Pénélope Godefroy in charge of th estate. Quality has, as result, started to soar. The Saint Emilion property measures 6.24 hectares and is planted with 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. The vineyard was organically certified in 2018. This property has an excellent location, sitting between Trottevieille, Troplong Mondot and Pavie Macquin.

Tasting Notes

Formerly owned by Artemis domaines and recently acquired by Calon-Ségur, the 2019 Le Prieuré exhibits aromas of plums, cherries and loamy soil, followed by a medium to full-bodied, lively palate framed by powdery tannins. Drink 2021-2035.

William Kelley, RobertParker.com (April 2022), April 2022

The very deep purple-black colored 2019 Le Prieure needs a little coaxing to reveal a gorgeous core of chocolate-covered cherries, plum preserves and black raspberries with hints of woodsmoke, crushed rocks, lavender and cumin seed. The densely packed, full-bodied palate delivers mouth-coating black fruits with a lively line of freshness and firm, ripe, grainy tannins, finishing long and lifted.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate (June 2020 ), June 2020

The 2019 is a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, and will be aged in 40% new French oak, 50% second fill barrels and 10% third fill barrels. The abv is 14.5%. Less than 1200 cases will be made, with 45% of the production going into the second label, "Delice de Prieure". Deep ruby in colour, with pure bramble fruits on the nose and a subtle, savoury spice. The palate is restrained and savoury, with camphor, fresh red and black berries and finely etched tannins that are ripe and fine-grained. This soft and supple style is harmonious and moreish, with a lingering juicyness on the finish.
