A gorgeously perfumed and exceptional nose is composed by notes of various red berries, lavender, spice and again a whisper of sandalwood. There is equally good freshness to the muscular, broad-shouldered and powerful flavors that are wonderfully energetic while culminating in a dusty, youthfully austere and strikingly long finish. This overtly saline effort is potentially outstanding as it has everything it needs to mature into a sublime Malconsorts.
Three barrels for the first time! To be bottled only in magnums and larger sizes. Full bright purple of medium density. The aromatics grow on the nose. Good phenolic maturity, extra mouthfeel here, perhaps shows the wood a touch more (tasted from one year old François Frères grain très fin barrel). But this does not dry it out. Very long finish. Tasted: November 2018.
The Hudelot-Noëllat holding of only 0.14ha is located in the upper part of this premier cru, all of it old vines planted by Charles Noëllat. This is finer than the wines of some of his neighbours, somewhere between the minerality of Les Beaumonts with the richness of Les Suchots, embellished by stylish oak and sinewy tannins. Drink between 2023-2032
