Here too the wood isn't subtle though it's by no means intrusive, just noticeable, on the fresh and pretty blend of red currant, plum, violet and softly spiced aromas where a hint of herbal tea lurks in the background. There is slightly better richness and definitely more salinity to the medium-bodied flavors that offer a step up in depth and persistence on the more well-balanced finale. This is lovely stuff and a wine that could be enjoyed young or with up to a decade of aging. Drink: 2026+
Vinified with over half whole clusters, the 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Petite Chapelle offers up a pretty bouquet of cassis, dark chocolate and rich soil tones. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, mineral and tensile, with lovely purity and very fine-grained tannins underpinned by tangy acids.
