Chambertin, Domaine Denis Mortet 2018

Tasting Notes

This is the first wine in the range to display any appreciable amount of reduction and it's enough to overshadow the fruit today. Otherwise there is excellent verve and freshness to the intense and beautifully delineated large-scaled flavors that exude evident minerality on the youthfully austere and explosively long finish that is shaped by admirably fine-grained tannins. Patience absolutely required as this is very compact. Don't Miss!

The 2018 Chambertin Grand Cru really merits its place in the hierarchy this year, unfurling in the glass with a complex bouquet of wild berries, plums and peonies complemented by nuances of blood orange, potpourri, cinnamon and smoked meats. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, supple and beautifully complete, with a layered and concentrated core, ripe acids and powdery tannins, concluding with a long and perfumed finish. In textural finesse and incipient complexity as well as in depth and dimension, the Chambertin possesses an extra dimension.

Three barrels made. Glowing purple, with up to a half whole bunch vinification and all matured in new wood. Discreet yet gorgeous nose. This dances on the palate, as Arnaud has such a fine hand with whole bunches, which add an ethereal touch to a wine that will always be solidly grounded. A sublime and serene finish.
