Chambolle Musigny Les Veroilles, Domaine Ghislaine Barthod 2015

Tasting Notes

A very ripe yet once again fresh nose aggregates notes of black cherry liqueur, violet, sandalwood, lavender and an interesting hint of dried orange peel. There is excellent richness allied with terrific punch and tension to the intensely stony medium-bodied flavors that are at once powerful, serious and muscular, all wrapped a classy, refined and strikingly long finish. This is quite firm yet there is so much sap that it should be approachable after only a few years of cellaring.

The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Véroilles consists of five barrels this year, two of them new. It has an elegant and composed bouquet that is perhaps the most harmonious of all the domaine's 2015s—pure red cherry, strawberry and cranberry scents infused with cold stone aromas. The palate is beautifully composed, beautifully delineated and damn well beautiful to drink. There is amazing energy here and outstanding sustain in the mouth. The best Veroilles produced at the domaine and goddammit, perhaps the finest premier cru Chambolle-Musigny that I have ever tasted from barrel. Drink 2020-2050
