Riesling Ellergrub, Weingut Immich-Batterieberg 2018

Tasting Notes

he 2018er Ellergrub, as it is referred to on the main part of the label, is a barely off-dry wine (with 11 g/l of residual sugar) made from parcels planted with very old un-grafted vines, and was fermented and aged in used barrique and small oak cask for 10 months. It offers a subtly fruity nose made of apricot, lemon, earthy herbs, cardamom, camphor, spices, and licorice. The wine proves rather full-bodied on the palate and leaves a soft and quite intense feel in the long, suave and rather complex finish. A touch of suave smoothness adds to the presence of this ripe expression of Ellergrub in the finish. This dry-tasting Ellergrub may be broader than in recent vintages, but it remains a hugely complex and fascinating expression of Riesling. 2021-2028

Wildflower and waxy notes dress ripe lemons and peaches. The palate has a ripe, glossy texture and very smoothly delivered peach and honey flavors that hold fresh and long. Drink now.
